About

Kim Somervuori (b. 1975) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2012, and studied at Vårdingeby folkhögskolan in Stockholm from 2005-2006. His works are in several collections, but a particularly large body of work is included in the collection donated to Kiasma by Seppo Fränti.

Kim Somervuori is a material romantic whose exhibitions are used to seeing installations and object compositions as well as large series of drawings. Somervuori is an accomplished artist with a broad knowledge of cultural history, including outside his own genre. The paintings reflect modernism's deep enjoyment of form: surface and colour. This is combined with the visual world of the 21st century in a way that is unique in the context of fine art.

Somervuori has mastered the surface of the picture, with its composition and detail, but is able to combine it with a web of references so controlled that it does not overwhelm the work but subtly supports it.
